GEORGIA - 8000 YEARS OF WINE

Georgia is widely regarded as the birthplace of wine, with a winemaking tradition stretching back more than 8,000 years.
Archaeological discoveries in Georgia have revealed some of the earliest known evidence of grape cultivation and winemaking, placing wine at the heart of Georgian history and culture. Over thousands of years, the vine has become deeply woven into the country's traditions, hospitality and way of life.

Georgia is also home to hundreds of indigenous grape varieties, many found nowhere else in the world. This remarkable diversity has given Georgian wine its distinctive identity and continues to shape the character of the country's wines today.

In eastern Georgia lies Kakheti, the country's most celebrated wine-growing region and the home of our vineyard.
Framed by the Caucasus Mountains and shaped by the Alazani Valley, Kakheti offers a distinctive combination of climate, soil and landscape ideally suited to viticulture.

For centuries, families across Kakheti have cultivated indigenous grape varieties and passed their knowledge of wine from one generation to the next. Today, the region remains at the heart of Georgian wine, combining its ancient traditions with contemporary approaches to viticulture and winemaking.

Georgia is home to hundreds of indigenous grape varieties, each reflecting the diversity and depth of the country’s ancient winemaking heritage.

Among them, Saperavi stands as one of Georgia’s most distinguished native red grape varieties. Deep in colour and naturally structured, Saperavi is known for producing wines of remarkable depth, character and ageing potential.

For Madli Wines, Saperavi is more than a grape variety — it is the connection between our wine and its Georgian origin. Our Saperavi comes from our own vineyard in Kondoli, Kakheti, where established old vines have long been part of the landscape.

Through Madli, we seek to express this identity with clarity and respect — a Georgian grape, grown in Kakheti, shaped by its place of origin.
